2027: Oyo APC Women Leader Engages GMT as Support Group Targets 2 Million Votes for Tinubu, Alli

By Our Political Correspondent | Ibadan

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, political activities in Oyo State are gathering momentum as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies its reconciliation, stakeholder engagement and grassroots mobilisation efforts.

In a significant political engagement, the Oyo State APC Women Leader and Secretary of the party’s Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Adekemi Felicia Opatunde, met with the leadership of the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) in Ibadan.

The meeting focused on party unity, reconciliation, grassroots participation and the need for a coordinated political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

The engagement reflects the growing emphasis within the Oyo APC on building a broad and inclusive political coalition capable of mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s Oyo State governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, and other APC candidates.

At the meeting, GMT’s Oyo State Chapter, led by its Director-General, Alhaja Aminat Romoke Oparemi (Opason), reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation and announced an ambitious two-million-vote target for President Tinubu, alongside support for Senator Alli and other APC candidates.

The target underscores GMT’s intention to expand its political presence across Oyo State and deepen engagement with voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Under Oparemi’s leadership, with Alhaja Saidat Olabisi Olayiwola serving as Director of Media Art, the movement is seeking to combine grassroots organisation with strategic communication as it builds support across the state’s 33 local government areas.

The real test, however, will be translating the ambitious numerical target into a sustainable and measurable grassroots structure capable of engaging communities, women, youths and other critical voter groups.

For the APC, the mobilisation effort must go hand in hand with reconciliation. Following the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s governorship candidate, the party has continued to emphasise unity and stakeholder engagement as essential components of its 2027 strategy. Alli has also publicly identified reconciliation and party unity as priorities. (punchng.com)

The political task, therefore, is to ensure that differences arising from the competitive nature of internal politics do not become permanent divisions. A strong political organisation must accommodate diverse interests while maintaining a common objective.

For GMT, the two-million-vote pledge represents both an ambitious political target and an organisational challenge. Delivering on such an objective will require sustained grassroots engagement, effective communication, credible leadership and functional structures across communities, wards and local government areas.

Women and youths will also remain central to the mobilisation effort. Modern political campaigns increasingly combine traditional grassroots networks with digital communication, community engagement and strategic media management.

With Alhaja Aminat Romoke Oparemi (Opason) providing leadership as Director-General of GMT’s Oyo State Chapter and Alhaja Saidat Olabisi Olayiwola overseeing Media Art, the movement is positioning itself to play a more prominent role in the 2027 political mobilisation.

Ultimately, the success of the Oyo APC’s 2027 project will depend on its ability to transform reconciliation into genuine unity, political support into organised mobilisation and campaign targets into measurable grassroots engagement.

As the 2027 contest approaches, the political message is increasingly clear: unity must precede victory, grassroots organisation must support political ambition, and every stakeholder must have a role in building a stronger and more competitive APC.

For President Tinubu, Senator Alli and the wider APC family in Oyo State, the task ahead is not merely to make political declarations, but to build a broad, inclusive and disciplined coalition capable of earning the confidence of the electorate.

The road to 2027 has begun and the decisive advantage will belong to those who can combine unity, organisation, credibility and genuine grassroots connection with the people.
